Adventures at the
Barents Sea and the
Norwegian-Russian border
DAY 1 SUMMER
We will pick up the group at the airport upon arrival. On our way to
Jarfjord we will stop by the Russian border. Lodging and information
about Arctic Adventure Resort and the arrangement of the stay. We will
serve a 3 course meal with local ingredients, and also extend the
option of enjoying our sauna and outdoors wooden bath tub underneath
the northern lights. For a special start on the trip we can pick you
up from our boat and serve the dinner in our turf hut or at the beach
in Grense Jakobselv with the Barents Sea as a view.
DAY 2 SUMMER
After breakfast, we will prepare for the ocean rafting with a safety
briefing and getting into gear. We will drive the ribbèn (a 25 feet
rubber boat with a 2x140 EHP Suzuki engine) out towards the Barents
Sea to challenge the natural forces; the ocean rafting experience is
an absolute must-do. Out by the mighty Barents Sea, we will go ashore
by our turf hut built over an old German gun site. This place is
located by a small lighthouse at the estuary of Jarfjorden, where the
fjord meets the ocean. We will be delighted to tell you the story
connected with this special place. Once safely ashore, we will eat a
light lunch. There will be possibilities for teambuilding activities.
Everybody will get an exciting speed ride on the waves before the boat
returns to the point of departure.
Before we return to Arctic Adventure Resort, we will catch the
ingredients for today’s dinner. Since we are in the realm of the King
Crab, a diver will descend to fetch a couple of crabs so that
everybody can experience the enormous King Crab; this delicacy can
become as large as 15 kilos with a “wing-span” of up to 2 meters.
Prior to or after the meal, we will of course enjoy the sauna and a
bath in the outdoors bath tub underneath the midnight sun. The
hardiest guests will be given the opportunity to bathe in the ice
ocean.
ALTERNATIVELY DAY 2:
The dinner will be self-caught hot smoked salmon. An overnight stay in
the lavvo camp or our turf hut camp out in the mouth of the fjord.
After breakfast, we will go in our rubber boat to the Jakobselv
border. Here, we will go ashore and visit King Oscar II’s chapel. This
will also give us an impression of how the current border against
Russia is guarded by Norwegian soldiers. Before lunch, we will arrange
a few tasks to be completed, e.g. a swimming competition in the ocean,
overcoming a few barriers concerning fear of heights, etc. Without
specifying too much, we guarantee that no-one will be cold and that
everybody will remember the experiences.
DAY 3 SUMMER
The quiet day. We will use our 36 feet traditional wooden fishing
smack to test the ocean fishing. During the boat trip, you will be
able to see wildlife such as the white-tailed eagle, seal, reindeer,
whale/Beluga etc. For today’s dinner, we will prepare your own catch.
Prior to departure, we will have time for some sightseeing in Kirkenes,
the former mining town in the north. The flight to Oslo will depart at 19:45.
